Quick Look - iPhone Pro DNG (and other RAW) not working in Seq 15.4 (worked in 15.3)

I have just reinstalled Mac OS (15.4) twice on MBP M3 Pro - and I still have my RAW CR2, DNG (from iPhone 16Pro) and NEF who are displayed as BLACK COLOUR in Quick Look (Quick View) mode (spacebar).

Photos do open in preview (and in their editing app) correctly, all of them.

Photos do have correct and updated Thumbnails in Finder.

However pressing Spacebar (Quick Look) will show RAW image as BLACK.

An image who was never opened in PREVIEW or APP -> is BLACK in Quick Look.

An image who was already opened in PREVEW or other APP -> it is still BLACK in Quick Look.

It does work with JPG, with MP4

Hi, I have the same issue. For now the one of the solution I've found is to make a bit zoom with trackpad and then the preview will appear. This is not the best way to solve this, but is something... Other way could be to load all images in lightroom.

Also, it is otherwise possible with an external monitor, at least like mine (4K 16:9), the problem does not happen, I can preview all my CR3 files with quick preview by clicking the space key.

Apple need to fix this as soon as possible.

Not only have I restarted, I have also reinstalled macOS from zero (I don’t backup). Also on Reddit there are more people complaining. Quick Look it is broken for Raw files no matter the brand.

As per viewing the files, Preview and other apps work just fine.

Yest I run latest and greatest macOS as the title says it.

Hi, I have managed to “fix” this problem. I don't know if this is going to work to everyone. For me works following the next steps:

1.- Check that the issue happen only in your MacBook's screen.

2.- With the MacBook screen opened, connect your MacBook to an external monitor using a Thunderbolt cable.

3.- At this point, the issue is still happening in both screen (in my previous respond, if you close your MacBook's screen and connect it to an external monitor, in the monitor the issue doesn't happen).

4.- Disconnect the Thunderbolt cable from external monitor.

Now the issue in the MacBook's screen is solved, and if you connect again the Thunderbolt cable from the external monitor, is also fixed in both screen.

I have contacted with Apple support and they said that the issue is known and they are working to fix the issue asap. we have to be attentive to the next updates.

you can try restarting your Mac and relaunching Finder by holding the Option key, right-clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, and selecting Relaunch.

Ensure your macOS is up to date by navigating to System Settings > General > Software Update, as Apple may release patches for this issue.

If the problem persists, consider using third-party applications like Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop to view and edit DNG and RAW files.

Reporting the issue to Apple Support is also advisable to help facilitate a fix in future updates.

I have a similar issue, more or less. DNG images taken with my iPhone and transferred to MacBook have a black box in Finder preview (though the actual image shows in the filename icon). This does not happen with RAW files taken with my Sony a6700 (either ARW or dng).

I just discovered that viewing these DNGs in Lightroom Classic and instructing LRC to "Update DNG Previews and Metadata” eliminates the black box in Finder and shows the previews correctly. So this is a fix of sorts, but a pain to have to go through this process for thousands of DNGs. Also, I don’t know if this might cause other problems.
