Downloaded Nebula for fun and ended up confused about billing

I’m usually pretty cautious with apps, but I feel a bit confused and thought I'd share what happened with asknebula: horoscope & astrology. Maybe someone else ran into this?

I downloaded it out of curiosity - the whole astrology vibe seemed fun, and there was a $1 thing they offered. Cool, right? Except a few days later I saw a charge for something like $40, and I genuinely don’t remember agreeing to that. I double-checked my Apple subscriptions, but nothing was there. Tried to cancel - but the app’s "My plan" section just kept showing a loading animation. It never actually loads. I even tried emailing support, but didn’t get anything back. Also - and maybe this is just me - the report I got looked super generic? I asked a friend to try it with different details, and we got nearly the same thing. That kinda killed the "personal" vibe for me.

I’m not saying the app is bad or anything, but if you’re checking it out, just be careful and maybe take a few screenshots during the purchase process. I wish I had.

Anyway, just putting it out there in case it helps someone avoid unexpected charges like I got.

Dispute the charge with the bank that issued your card. Most people are directed to their website from a Social Media post or website advertisement where the see the $1 offer. Agreeing to the offer signed them up for a free trial that becomes a subscription and you are then directed to download the app. You have the subscription already directly with the Developer whether you download the app or not. You should be able to cancel on the website since that is where the subscription was started.

You can also try this to cancel your web subscription for Nebula:

Here is there money back policy:

My grandmа and I are in a similar predicament. Now I hope that they will also write about what can be done to solve this..
  • Contact Nebula using the provided links
  • If unsuccessful, contact your bank to dispute the charge and block further transactions.
  • Report the poster on the Social Media platform that referred you to that site. Many posts are simply scams where they are paid for each person that clicks a link.
  • Report Nebula as a fraudulent company to the FTC or your local government authority.

  • If you downloaded the app from the App Store, you can also report the app as a scam to Apple by signing in at reportaproblem.apple.com and choosing the Scam/Fraud option.
  • You can write a review for the app in the App Store that may help those that are searching for a Horoscope/Reading app in the App Store. It won't help those that went to the website first as the charges would occur whether they downloaded the app or not, but may help some.
