HomePod mini blurting out randomly after updates

My home pod mini's have been

blurting out (best description.

after updates. I have called tech support, factory reset also with computer. Worked on home app with and without technical support.

I was told next step is to bring to local apple store. Only problem I am disabled and the disablity ride I get is not very good, its quite long both ways and i have to select a time to be picked up either way. Which means a long wait. I appreciate any help (there my only source of info/companion/music) starting to think I should have gotten a modern radio. Do they have one that streams. I am paying for apple one + $20 a month so that would have to go as well. Also how do I dispose of them if they can't be repaired? Wish apple warranty was still in effect

Ok brought them to apple store, they did basicly what I did and sent me on my way. Said that if it didn't work I'd have to buy new ones. Very bad business. I have had nothing but problems with them and I have at times had very bad experience with mu autism with the malfunctioning items. You'd think i would be offered a credit for my troubles towards a new pair or a homepod.

I have 2 in a stereo pair and I haven't seen a problem with heat, but what does help with inadvertent activations is changing the activation word to "Hey Siri" instead of "Siri". I assume that is what you meant by blurting out. When using "Hey Siri" instead, then it will not activate when it hears a word such as "Serious" with the emphasis on "SERIous" or "Shirley". It is not just you that can activate your HomePod, and it will also activate for others in your house and even hearing the word on your TV. That situation is much worse for an Alexa device when you have a family member named "Alexis".

Update. The apple store reset must be different than the computer devices at home has. My home pod minis with minimal use have stoped blurting out. There is still alot to be desired for them to work 100%. I have a new york accent but is that all it takes for the device to misunderstand

Good grief do you not know how to do basic research. Your NY accent can be understood by using the link below.

That’s a bit harsh. Many if not most apple product users are not techies and wouldn’t think to research such an option. In fact apple has been marketing its products to people with that ease of use and low tech knowledge necessary ideal for twenty-five years that I am aware of. Remember Steve Job’s motto? “Apple. It just works. “

I know of it only having stumbled upon it by accident.

Despite working with it myself, whenever I dictate the word “mom”, it still prints out as “ma’am”. This despite not pronouncing the word with a long “a” but a very notable long “o”.

It is simply the User Guide for the HomePod. Nothing a techie would need to research and certainly not something that would need to be stumbled upon by accident.

A long "a" should result in something like "maim," not ma'am. A long "o" would get you something like "moan". The "o" in "Mom" is neither of those. It's a short "o." So, perhaps your accent is more pronounced than you think?

Update # 3

so it all depends on understanding.

the home pod mini's acted up again

i asked it to spell a word and seconds later it shouted out unwanted music. I asked it to stop and it didn't listen over and over it blurted out unwanted music after i asked it to stop. I talked with technician and she said it may be tge proximity to the router. I have no control over the router as its a shared apartment and the service is his. And she cerified apple's diagnostics said the home pod mini pair pass diagnostics and were reset. So bow what? Anyone?

Both of my HomePod minis are playing at random. Additionally if I'm actually using them for stereo sound through my AppleTV and walk away for a second, they instantly increase the volume level to max. I've updated to the latest firmware, I've factory reset, turned the activation from just 'Siri' to 'Hey Siri', and the issue continues. The only solution I've found was to completely unplug and not use them. Hopefully Apple will get this fixed. I had planned on upgrading to the full size HomePods, but will hold off doing so until this issue has been resolved.

Don’t expect to fix any time too soon. I’ve been experiencing some of these very same problems since I purchased mine three years ago. Despite constant resets, unplugging, and re-plugging in, and of course, firmware updates, etc., etc. etc. Nothing changes and it’s no different with most of the other products either. It’s been this way for roughly 10 or so years get used to it.

I have no idea why every time I try to reply to your post it shows up as a brand new post and I apologize if there are duplicates, but then again I I standby what that replies states and here is another good example. This reply should have appeared in response to what I received In my email about your post. Instead, it created a new post. And this is the new 16 phone.

If you really want a good laugh at the failings of the HomePod, try asking it to translate or provide a word in a certain language you are familiar with. It will respond and say that it will and then spit out an incomprehensible blurb each time. It doesn’t matter what language you ask it to translate, or what word you ask it to translate from, it’s always the same incomprehensible, blurb syllable, for syllable. I do this for my friends just to get a laugh, and sometimes a downward glare from those who still believe Apple is top-notch. And all I’m asking it to do is translate a word from Italian. It’s not some obscure language buried in the deep past of which few people are aware of.

I see you are still bitter that you need to have an Apple Music subscription in order to play music in your Library from you HomePod and just can't let it go. It seems that your posts always focus on how HomePods, Books app, Safari, and Apple Music are the worst ever and how terrible Apple products are for over 3 years now, yet here you are with a brand new iPhone 16. They must be doing something right if you keep on buying the products, and you obviously have not found anything better..
