How to control Bose 700 volume and mute with new Apple TV remote?

I just got a new Apple TV  replacing an old one. The old one was a first generation 4K. I Had a new remote USB C paired with that. I was able to control my Bose 700 with the old Apple TV using the latest remote.

Any ideas? It would seem the new set up doesn’t allow for it. I assume the software has changed. This is not allowed anymore. The location of the Apple TV is the same. Same three plugs. Power ethernet, and HDMI.

Note: the instructions that Apple provides say to choose a specific option, that doesn’t exist. It says choose “Receiver via IR” and is says: Choose this option if your receiver uses an infrared (IR) remote, but doesn’t support HDMI-CEC.

also, remember this worked earlier today with my old Apple TV 4K First generation.

The option “receiver via IR” doesn’t exist. I have 18.4 the instructions listed are for version 18. So, I guess the 18.4 update eliminated the option. Also, apparently my remote seems to work when it’s buried under something so apparently I can’t learn that because there’s no IR anyway.

So this was retitled, to make sure that it did not have anything to do with the fact that I just got a brand new Apple TV 4K third generation. So brand new Apple TV and we’re gonna have a title that says nothing about that.

when I got a new remote, I had no problems, I didn’t have problems until I got a new Apple TV 4K. The new title of this make sure it doesn’t make any sense. So hopefully somebody will ignore the title of this thread and read it.

I had an old tiVo remote, that was programmed with IR, it was so long ago. I don’t know how that remote was programmed, regardless, I was able to use it to use the “learn, remote function”. (after I put new batteries in the remote.)

I had first tried to figure out how to put the Bose remote into IR mode and I could not do it. I looked to see what else was in my box. When I saw the old TiVo remote, I figured I would try it and it worked perfectly.

note: I have had a lot of problems with my Bose 700, I’m also about to get a new TV, I just happened to get the new Apple TV first. At some point I’m going to be using HomePods either my existing generation one or new generation 2. Once I switched to the HomePods, obviously, I will not have any more problems. They are much more reliable than the Bose equipment. Especially the Base.
