Imported music track stops playing early on MacBook Pro

Whilst playing an imported music track, it stops early. The original file is fine and plays to the end if I play it in QuickTime. I've checked the start and stop times in the track options and all is fine. I had a student doing her singing audition for us and it stopped early and went on to the next track.

Very embarrassing for me and her! I've taken a video which shows it stopping at around 3 mins 38s when it should keep going to 4m 10s but I can't seem to attach a video to this post.
