Trouble with installing old os on a old mac

I have an old MacBook air 11" that has no operating system and I want to put a old os on it but it won't install and I have no idea why. are you guys able you help?

Installing Mac OS old iMac I have an iMac from mid 2011, I tried to bring it up to the latest Mac OS version that it could handle, and it has become painfully slow, so I am trying to bring it back to an earlier version that it could handle better. I have the original restore DVD disks, it will read them but it won't run the install package. I tried downloading the El Capitan installer, same thing, it downloads, installed the installer, but it won't run it. How can I wife the hard drive clean and start fresh with the original version that came with this computer.

What OS to use when reinstalling on a 2011 iMac I have been using macOS High Sierra, which is no longer supported by Apple. Today I erased my drive in preparation for giving the iMac to a friend, and I cannot reinstall High Sierra. How do I go about (re)installing an OS so the computer is usable?

We need much more information:

What year/model MBA do you have?
Which OS did it come with?
Which OS are you trying to install?
How are you trying to install it?
