First, make sure Apple Intelligence is supported and set up on your iPhone, which is required for this feature. The Support Article below outlines the requirements for Apple Intelligence, which includes device language and Siri language, storage, and software which you should verify.

How to get Apple Intelligence - Apple Support

Then, make sure your iPhone is on the latest iOS 18.4. The Priority Notifications feature was introduced in that software.

Lastly, go to Settings > Notifications > Priority Notifications > Turn it on.

All three of these requirements must be met to use the Priority Notifications feature. If any one or more is not met, the feature cannot be used.

I have a 15 pro max, update before last immediately lost ability to message from desktop machine, no notifications for email or text. last update didn't fix. iOS 18.4 Apple Intelligence installed, Priority Notifications ON. Still nothing. Insert sad face.

This sounds like you cannot receive notifications at all in general. We would need to fix that first before you can use the Priority Notifications feature. As a result, I suggest you ask a new question so you will get more help.
