Apple Music deleting non-purchased content

Last night I updated iOS to the most current version, 18.4 I think. When I started off on my drive to work I found all of my non-purchased content had been deleted from my iPhone. This is absolutely not acceptable, and today I was a bit annoyed would be an understatement. These were all the CDs (that I had bought) I had moved into iTunes. I still own the original CDs.

So… when I get home I’ll see if I can resynch my phone with my library on my PC. I still have the files backed up and so that isn’t my concern.

My concern is why did this happen (that content was there last week), and how do I prevent it from happening again. To be honest, Apple has always had truly very buggy software; iTunes and Apple Music definitely fits into this category and it’s been very frustrating over the years having to fight the software. User experience? Sure.

Anyhoo, that’s about it. I just want to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Is there another application I could use other than Apple Music? I strongly suspect the music wouldn’t work with anything else anyway.

Thanks much.

Update: I tried syncing iTunes on my PC with my iPhone and the deleted content did not come back. What is Apple playing at here? It is never acceptable to delete content on a person’s device. Ever.

Also, I can’t find how to turn off synching with iCloud. I’m wondering if that could be part of the issue. I’m thinking of dropping the cloud anyway; this may be a good start.

Anyway, I’d appreciate any help. Thanks!
