How can I stop a timer in another room.

I searched and found Can I stop a timer in another room? - Apple Community but it's from 2023 and has no correct answer.

The timer running on the HomePod in my kitchen downstairs is sounding and I want to make it stop. I've tried everything I can think of using Siri from upstairs.

"Siri stop the kitchen" was almost there in that it replied "stopping in the kitchen" but the alarm is still going off downstairs and even shouting won't stop it - too far away.

This seems like such a basic thing but the reality is HomePods are not as tightly integrated as Apple lets you believe. I'm going to actually have to go downstairs now to shut it up.

“Hey Siri stop” from any Siri enabled device should do the trick. It will know it’s the kitchen.

Occasionally it doesn’t work so just try again. You should also update all your devices to 18.4. See if that improves things.

All devices were updated yesterday including HomePods but it doesn’t work. Timer alarm stopped when the HomePod was updating but resumed when done. I physically had to go downstairs and stop it. Saying “Siri stop” just gave the reply that there’s nothing to stop.

Then I can’t think of why it’s not working on yours. I have to cover my Apple Watch and shout out without my other devices being nearby also listening. I say stop and the HomePod will say “stop the kitchen? You have to say “yes”. If you’re not getting that response the HomePod never heard you. Or it will say stopping the kitchen.
