Why does iMovie crash when I try to import media?

Every time I try to import any media into iMovie, it crashes immediately. Everything else works perfectly within iMovie. I can view existing media, existing projects, audio, etc., all with no issues, but the moment I even put the cursor on "import", it chucks a major wobbly, and the spinning wheel of death appears. The only way to get out of this is to force quit. I am running Sequoia 15.3.2. I have done all the usual things, as well as uninstall and reinstall iMovie. My Mac is up to date, as is my version of iMovie (10.4.3) I am about to throw it out the bloody window. Can someone please help?

Am no expert in this area, yet your post to the community deserves some response.

Resource: iMovie User Guide for Mac - Apple Support has the "how to" info.

Eg: says:
