The files don't exist on my hard drive anymore. I can see the listings in Apple Music in my library but they are greyed out and do not play when I click them. What did apple do with my music?

Do you have an Apple Music subscription? Is there an error message when you try to play a file and if so what it is? Do you have a backup of your computer in Time Machine or similar? Has there been any relevant recent change, e.g. macOS update, removal of external drive, etc.? What was the original OS on this machine?
