I recorded a violin recital that was streamed into my iMac running 15.3.2 using Shift+Command+5 but mistakenly did not turn on a microphone so I have a silent video. The recital was recorded so I do have a sound track. Is there any way to sync the separate sound track to the video?

Try using the sync clip function. It probably won't align up very well to start. But you can open the sync clip and find where there is some recognizable sync point. Use markers on the video and audio to help the line up the two elements.
You'll have your best chance if the audio is WAV or AIFF (at least 48 kHz) format. Compressed formats (mp3 etc.) may cause you extra problems.
