How can I add emojis to Contacts on my iPhone?

With the latest update, I cannot add emojis to contacts. I can only do the monogram, photo, camera, or emoji. I just want to add a simple emoji like a tooth for my dentist. Frustrating!

CONTACT Format and Options (Fall 2023) Following one of the updates in October/November..... I used to be able to put an EMOJI as a photo in a contact. (Emoji NOT Memoji). Am I missing something or did they really do away with that option. Also, for the record, the new "ANDROID" style format of a Contact is awful. I don't need the photo of the contact to take up 3/4 of the screen. I'd rather see more details of the contact when I open it.

emojis in contact names I have a group of contacts that I want to call regularly that is always changing. I use a specific emoji in front of their name to signify that they are in that group (the group participants are always changing but the emoji stays the same). I used to be able to look them all up quickly by putting the emoji in the search bar at the top of contacts but as of a few weeks ago it's no longer working (no contacts come up). Is this because of a new software update? How do I get this function back?

Thank you, I did try that, but it displayed on the preview as invisible, and when I chose OK, it still did not show and was replaced by the monogram. (I tried this many times.)

I know this isn't intuitive, but you can choose an Emoji:

Open the Contact
Tap Edit
Tap Monogram and choose any letter
Tap Continue
Now tap Choose a Different Photo
Tap Emoji
