After I uncheck the compilation field for an album, the albums no longer shows up as a compilation. However, 5 seconds later, it shows up as a compilation with the field now checked.

Odd. I wonder if this is a similar "Apple knows best" situation to the one for iTunes Purchases. Is there a common album artist value before you attempt to remove the compilation flag? Can you share the album details of one of the problem albums so I can attempt to reproduce and/or find a workaround.

Those reasons don't seem to apply here. I can make other changes to song titles, artists, albums etc but I can't change the compilation flag and have it stick.
Is it an album purchased from the iTunes Store?
