iCloud Passwords Extension not pasting in credentials- Chrome/Edge on macOS

I've recently installed the iCloud Passwords Extension with Chrome and Edge on my Mac so that I can access credentials more easily when in a Chrome-based browser. I am able to install the extension and I am prompted to authenticate the extension with a six-digit code on my Mac. Once I do this, I can click on a username/password field and I am presented a list of available credentials from my Apple Passwords; however, whenever I click on the credentials from this list it won't paste anything in.

This is happening on multiple Macs. Is there a setting I'm missing or does this thing just not work?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 15.3

UPDATE: Not a fix, but more details... I am able to get passwords to paste in, but it takes a few additional steps:

  1. Go to the page you want to login
  2. Using the iCloud Passwords extension button, authenticate the plug-in
  3. Click the extension button again and this time select Open Passwords app
  4. Log into the Passwords app
  5. Back in the browser window, click into the username field
  6. Again using the extension button, select your login credentials. This should prompt for another system login
  7. You username will paste in

RIDICULOUS!!! Also, for whatever reason I was able to get the extension loaded into ungoogled-Chromium and it works just fine. Beats me.
