Get Apple Music to play RIP music tracks on iPhone12

I am an Android user exploring using Apple iPhone12. I have an Apple Account and have purchased music from Apple (used to use iTunes for this AND adding music to my library on my PC). I have RIP'd many of my favourite CDs in to music files/albums {including embedding art work and editing TAGs if necessary - into MP3 or MP4 or whatever). All my music that I have purchased from Apple I can see on my iPhone and can play or download. However how can I get Apple Music to see and play my RIP music tracks. I created a folder called Music in the area I am allowed to use (and is sync'd to my PC via iDrive etc.). But Apple Music can play these if I select them but doesn't find them. On Android most music players will find Music files/tracks anywhere on the phone. How can I point Apple Music to where I will put 'my' music tracks that haven't been purchased from Apple. OR maybe I will have to use a third party music play and NOT use Apple Music app/player. Which is a shame as I would be happy to use Apple Music player etc... to manage my library and playing my own music not purchased from Apple. Maybe I should forget the excellent Apple iphone etc.. and Go Back to Android and its flexibility. Hopefully an Experienced Apple User can explain to me how the mystery of Apple - Apple Music an Apple Music Player app and all that jazz works. Thanks!
