Migrate Apple Music library from PC to Mac

Hello,

is there a way to migrate an Apple Music library from Apple Music on Windows to Apple Music on a Mac (both using the latest versions)?

I tried copying the library file to a Mac and opening it in Apple Music, which doesn't work. Apple Music on the Mac says that the library has been created by a newer version of Apple Music, which assumably just tells that it isn't compatible.

Does anybody know, if the Migration Assistant is able to do that? I wasn't able to get it running yet and before investing more time in that, it would be good to know, if it is worth trying further.

Thank you!

I'm pretty sure the answer is no, or at least not by simply copying files across. Apple Music for Windows lacks the ability to export the library as an XML file, or Home Sharing, which would be the usual approaches. How long ago did you switch from iTunes? You could potentially revert to that.

Hmm. I wonder if the library export feature still exports the whole library even when iTunes itself is limited to audiobooks and podcasts because Apple Music is installed. I should test that.

The other approach would be a temporary subscription to the Apple Music service, which should let you download the matched/uploaded copies of your tracks on the new computer.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Unfortunately I switched to Apple Music quite some time ago (which from today's point of view was a big mistake), so going back to the old iTunes library is no option anymore.

Does the Apple Music service work today as iTunes Match did in the past (allowing to download and keep the matched and uploaded files)?

If yes, this or maybe the Migration Assistent would be the only ways. Even though I have only small hope, that the Migration Assistant would work.

Otherwise apparently the only way will be, to manually rebuild my library on the mac. Which means a lot of work and that some old history (like play counts and date added) will be lost.

Using Apple devices and SW since a long time, I am very dissapointed from what they do and did with Apple Music on Windows today...

Indeed. Sadly Apple Music for Windows is missing many useful features that are in both iTunes and Music for Mac.
