I need to use the microphone because I’m learning a language online and need that feature. While I’m using it, it just stops working. I restart the iphone and it will work but then cut out again after a few minutes.

Ok, what I suggest you do is take the device in for an examination:
Did you perform the forced restart? It’s not solely for devices that are frozen. Sometimes, forced restarts will fix issues like the one you have.
