How to enable text message forwarding from iPhone 16 to iPad?

I just purchased an iPhone 16 through Verizon. I also was able to get a new iPad as well. I am not able to receive text messages from the phone to the iPad. I messaging works fine. The tutorials I have seen state that I need to make sure text message forwarding is enabled. Problem is, there is no tab in the message app to enable text message forwarding. Do I need to take the phone back to Verizon, or is there somewhere else that this can be enabled.
