Apple gift card purchases

I bought an Apple gift card a couple days ago and paid for it with my credit card. I tried to buy another one today using the same credit card and it was declined. There is plenty available credit on the credit card I was using. Later I used the credit card for a small purchase and it went through so the card isn’t maxed or locked…help
