Why can't I select text in iCloud Calendar events?

Recently, I've noticed on my laptop that when I create a new iCloud Calendar event I am unable to select one or more words with either my mouse or CTRL-A to delete or edit. I can't even select the default 'New Event' text to replace it. Instead, I'm forced to place the cursor to the right of Event and repeatedly hit the [Delete] key.

This used to work and now no longer does. I've tried this in both Chrome and Edge. No joy.

I found like the above poster that the highlight worked in DuckDuckGo.....for about 2 weeks. Since then none of them work. Tried all the cookies/data clearing without success. Something is not playing nice with windows browsers and Apple.

This RECENT inability to highlight text in iCalendar entries is happening for me as well.

It FAILS in Chrome (Version 134.0.6998.178 (Official Build) (64-bit)) and in Edge (Version 134.0.3124.93 (Official build) (64-bit)).

Highlighting does WORK in DuckDuckGo (version 0.105.2). This makes me believe it is related mainly to iCloud and not Google or Microsoft.
