Instability of Contacts on 2019 MacBook Air

When trying to enter a new contact, I will get maybe the name in and then the whole contact disappears. I can't get all the information on a contact. Sometimes I get the name in and save that and then go back in to Edit to get the rest of the info on the card. This has been going on for several years intermittently but I didn't want to mess with it. It appears to be worse lately and is starting to frustrate me. I have tried starting in Safe Mode and the same thing happens there. I am running the latest update on Sonoma.

It should but some users have this issue. You can try to open Contacts using the control key or the option key and test. I have had some luck using those keys.

My issue isn't adding a contact to a list. I just can't add a new contact - I start typing the entry and it disappears. Sometimes I can get the first and last names in and saved before it causes them to disappear. Then I can go in and edit them to add the rest of their contact information like phone numbers and emails. Sometimes I can't even get past the first name before it disappears! But this is laborious and frustrating process. This seems a problem which has existed for some time and not corrected by Apple?
