Titles within the IPTC metadata not showing on Photos

Hi all,

I have imported a photo into Mac Photos. The photo has a title which I have confirmed by opening the photo in Preview and looking in the 'i' section under the IPTC tab. However the title does not show in Mac Photos. I'm missing something obvious I'm sure.

Thanks

Paul

Maybe not. I just tried adding an IPTC title in GraphicConverter and importing that to Photos, and the Title field was blank. This is new-- I have often put titles for scanned pictures before importing them, and it worked.

I put a title in the title field for a picture in Photos and exported it-- the title appears in IPTC for the exported picture. But it doesn't seem to got the other way. The Caption seems to work, though.

I'm going to report this here:

For me, the IPTC titles are ignored on Sequoia, whenever they are identical to the filename.

For photos, where I copied the filename to the title using an Apple Script, the new title is not shown as a title below the thumbnails, but dimmed, just like the photo had no title at all. But the title is exported as IPTC title nevertheless. The Photos developer team clearly is taking great care to get filenames hidden away as unnecessary technical detail. Currently I have macOS 15.3.2 installed.
