Every Apple Certified Refurbished product completes a rigorous refurbishment process that includes full functional testing, with special savings of up to 15%.

Why Refurbished

The following is extracted from -->

Apple Certified Refurbished Products (USA)

  • Quality products at great prices
  • Rigorous refurbishment process prior to sale
  • Covered by Apple’s one-year limited warranty
  • Covered by Apple’s 14-day returns policy
  • AppleCare product can be purchased
  • Engraving and gift wrap not available for refurbished products
  • Supplies are limited

If the reseller is evasive about whether their product qualifies for AppleCare, my assumption would be that

  • They are not offering Apple Certified Refurbished iPhones, but are offering "refurbished" iPhones that might be little more than used iPhones thrown into a box.
  • You will not be able to buy AppleCare+ for the phones in question.

After all, if the phones were Apple Certified Refurbished phones, and were eligible for AppleCare+, those would be big selling points, and you'd think the reseller would be falling all over themselves to tell you about it.

Something else that hasn't been mentioned so far.

Apple's site says that every Certified Refurbished iPhone that you purchase from them comes with a new battery.

Batteries are consumables, and once Battery Health drops below 80%, it's time to replace them. So if you buy a "refurbished" iPhone from someone other than Apple, one which doesn't come with a new battery, you could be looking at paying for battery replacement service sooner than you might have hoped.
