Can't see other person when on facetime - using macbook

When I facetime from either my iphone or ipad i can see the other person and they can see me. However, when i try to facetime someone from my MacBook i cannot see the other person but they can see me.

I've tried closing and reopening Facetime and I've tried restarting my MacBook but neither of these fixed the issue.

The camera on my MacBook does work as it works in other apps such as PhotoBooth.

Cannot see the the other person on FaceTime? Apple support does not provide the answer. On FaceTime, I can see myself and the initials of the other person. The other person can see themselves and me. I have tried every option online that is present. Nothing works to date. Any other suggestions, please?
