Downloading Pages & Numbers

I have an iMac, 2023 and I have not been able to open documents using pages nor numbers. I tried downloading both from the Apple app store but the 'get' button is grayed out. Am I wrong in assuming iMac should have Pages and Numbers already installed?

Look in your /Applications folder for these icons:

If they are present and current (v14.3) versions, then you would expect only to see an active Open for each application in the Mac App Store. There would be no Get button available in that circumstance.

If the applications are present single click on one in the Finder and then click option+cmd+i to open the information panel. What is the version number? Then click on each of the other two without that keyboard shortcut to see their versions. If the versions are older than 14, then you may need to remove these older Pages, Numbers, and Keynote versions before visiting the Mac App Store and installing the new versions with an active Get.

Launch the Mac App Store and ensure that you are signed in with the same Apple ID as is associated with your Mac in System Settings. Then try the Get button for those applications.

Is this someone else's iMac that is associated with their Apple ID, or for which you are a user without administrator privileges?
