This is not an Apple issue, but rather a bank issue. Apple provides the same set of information to all banks that are attempting to add a payment method to Apple Wallet app.

When a user adds a credit, debit or pre-paid card (including store cards) to Apple Wallet, Apple securely sends the card information, along with other information about the user’s account and device, to the card issuer or card issuer’s authorized service provider (usually the payment network). Using this information, the card issuer (or its service provider) determines whether to approve the user’s request to add the card to Apple Wallet.

Card provisioning security overview - Apple Support

The banks need to establish the security of your device and the ownership. Apple provides the following information.

When you are adding a payment card like store, credit, debit, and prepaid cards to Apple Pay, information you provide about your card, and whether certain device settings are enabled may be sent to Apple in order to determine your eligibility to enable Apple Pay and its features. Your device may also evaluate device use patterns (for example, percent of time device is in motion, approximate number of calls per week) to help identify fraud.”

The information evaluated by your device is not shared with Apple in a way that can be linked to you.

Apple literally does not know and cannot track any of the information back to you. The information your iPhone discloses to your bank would have to be shared by the bank to Apple. Even then, Apple can’t change the data your iPhone is reporting.

Information may also be provided by Apple to those entities to enable Apple Pay, determine card eligibility, set up your card with Apple Pay, and to prevent fraud, including:

  • Your credit, debit, or prepaid card number
  • The name and billing address associated with your Apple Account
  • General information about your Apple Account activity (for example, whether you have a long history of transactions within iTunes)
  • Information about your device and, if using Apple Watch, the paired iOS device (for example, a device identifier, phone number, and the name and model, for both your Apple Watch and paired iOS device)
  • Location at the time you add your card (if you have Location Services enabled)
  • Account or device history of adding payment cards
  • Aggregated stats relating to the information from payment cards you’ve added or attempted to add to Apple Pay

Ask your bank if they are receiving data from the Payment Network Operator (Mastercard, Visa etc.)?

If you look over this list,

The first item is not the issue.

Does you name match you Apple Account name? Does it match what the bank has on file? Is it vastly different from your birth certificate?

How long have you had your Apple Account (formerly Apple ID) a month, a year, a decade? My Apple ID is over 25 years old.

Whats your App Store and iTunes purchases and subscriptions like? Ever had issues with either store, excessive refunds, account locked etc.?

Location issues, are you at your home address? Have you disabled any location services? Do you have solid WiFi and cellular service?

Have you ever had VPN or antivirus software active on any iPhone linked to your Apple Account?

Did you purchase your iPhone new from Apple? If not, what’s the history of the iPhone?

Ever had an issue adding a payment method to your Apple Account or Wallet app before? If so, how was it resolved?

How many different Apple Accounts or Apple IDs have you had?

When a card is declined for Apple Wallet that becomes a statistic that is shared to every other PNO. This history cannot be erased, to the best of my knowledge.

Lots to mull over and check into. What’s not clear is how this issue came about? Have cards ever been added to this device before? Have you ever had any cards in Apple Wallet before? If you have, any issues adding? Did you or a bank remove them?

The bank probably gave you poor advice. Every time you attempt to add the card, it shows as another failed attempt.

No one here or at Apple can add your card to Apple Wallet app. Only the issuing bank can approve the card. Apple is not a bank. Apple cannot add your card.

One of two entities is blocking your card, your bank or the payment network.

If you want to add your card, wait 60 to 90 days before trying to add it. The worst advice you’ve received is trying everyday. That will fail every time.

Yep that’s what they told me, ai understand Apple is not a bank but is a helping forum for Apple devices etc surely ai can add my card without waiting weeks upon weeks ai need it added asap, shall ai ask the bank to delete all previous & current tokens for Apple Pay? Surely it’s got to be a way to solve this without waiting for weeks on end?
