Mac mini camera install or use iPhone camera

I thought this mini was going to bring me back to apple but after days of issues which are solved on pcs with plug and play, I feel I have $700 paper weight.

The ads, forums, YouTube vids, reviews etc. said the mini did not come with peripherals, so I bought Mac compatible things. As I sit here with my webcam staring at me with its lights on I know it exists and is connected to the mini. Why can't this overpriced paperweight recognize it? I was able to get my iPhone to mirror on it, but no camera there either. Having a computer today without a camera and mic is akin to having flip-flops without the rubber straps.

I will admit that the mini is one sexy paperweight, but for $700 I could have fresh flowers everyday instead. Is there anyplace where someone can solve what should not be an issue or in the least a quick fix?
