My new iPhone 16 Pro Max has a gap between screen and titanium frame

My newly bought iPhone 16 pro max has a gap between the screen and the titanium frame. It looks like a significant gap. When I went to Genius Bar, they say it is quite common and the gap does not matter. They have no standard specifications for this gap.

I feel the gap is quite significant.

what should I do?

I’ve spent WAY too long reaching answers for this! Im over it. I’ve noticed since COVID quality overall has gone 💩

I’ve also spoke with Apple customer support.

What I’ve found through browser search is - gap tolerance for these phones are 0.5. Anything more doesn’t meet QC. I confirmed this with customer support and agent claimed that the gap is also for easier phone repair. Something about the phone repair reason doesn’t set well with me though. Easiest thing to do is save yourself the headache/time and try process a warranty claim due to the risk of elemental resistant rating being compromised by design flaw? Not sure if that would work lol but never hurts to try. If not just play it safe and get apple care 🍻

I thought I had pictures but I deleted them. What “promax” is describing is true. It’s unfortunately on ALL iPhones that I’ve physically inspected. I don’t use a case so I clean my phone daily and give it a good “detail” at least once a week so I unfortunately notice all the little details and once I see them I can’t unsee them lol

For a while I was feeling like a crazy person. We all have different standards so I completely understand where promax is coming from. It bothered me so much that I took my phone to Apple 3xs. They replaced the front panel, the back panel, and the titanium frame itself. The frame/glass panel gap is still there along with glass panel not setting “perfectly” flush with the frame. I’ve thought of so many different “reasons” as to why this is the way it is but there’s no really no excuse. Looking at my s24 ultra - glass panels to frame is a “perfect” fit! Definitely meets my standard and I believe should be easily replicated. Both companies use glass and titanium materials. If the gaps doesn’t bother you and are okay paying a premium price for a premium device go for it. If Apple says it okay and meets requirements to resist elements as advertised you should be fine. Just make sure they note your account that they deemed it to be okay - just in case in the event of a failure. Could be hard to prove but at least it’s noted and they may consider - get apple care. That’s what I’d recommend

I'm just having this issue. I have an iPhone SE 3rd gen, and the screen looked normal within the screen protector. But I recently updated my software to iOS 18.4, and now there's a very noticeable black border around the entire screen, the worst at the top of the screen. This seems like some kind of glitch that the software update has introduced in the aspect ratio. Is there any way to fix it in the settings? I have a feeling this is some kind of inherent glitch on apple's side and there's no fix... Shouldn't have updated the ios

Sorry I am only bases this off of what I find searching online. I am not an Apple tech nor do I rep Apple in any way(besides this)

I have read that there is a gap tolerance allowed - this measurement stated is only between the titanium frame and glass panels.

According to the Apple Genius they allow the gap as long as it does not compromise the gasket that the glass panel sets on (in between the frame and glass panels).

For me.. this does not work. I have since moved on from iPhone/Apple.

For reference my gf has the iPhone 15 Pro max. She is hard on her phones so after cleaning it up and inspecting I noticed the gaps and evenness of the panels are "perfect".

We are dropping $1,000+ on these phones. I'd prefer not to play iPhone roulette here.

Best of luck to anyone having these issues - again... I'd strongly recommend getting Apple Care and having the Apple Geniuses note any issues/flaws you have with your device.

Happy Easter! Enjoy your weekend - stay safe!
