That sounds like the mini-player. If you tap on it, it should return to the video area.
If it's not, you may. need to force quit the YouTube App and open it again.

I can go to YouTube and see the image for a video I want to play, but tapping on it results in no motion or sound, just a black space with that tiny rectangle of animation in the upper left corner.
Youtube has nothing to do with Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence is not available on iPhone 12. It requires an iPhone 15 Pro/Max or an iPhone 16
This is not an Apple problem. Google has already acknowledged that the problem is with their app.
