Canon Raw into Apple Photos
I cannot seem to import Canon Raw files into Apple photo. The JPegs come across fine but the RAW files seem to be ignored.
thoughts/suggestions appreciated

What Canon camera is producing the Raw files? Are the Raw files compressed? Have you looked at Apple’s recently updated compatibility documentation?
Can you transfer these RAW files to a Finder folder? Do the thumbnails show in Finder? If that works, can you use Import in Photos to import the RAW files from Finder?
As an aside, I don't see much value in importing RAW files to Photos-- I import my jpgs to Photos, and I curate them there. I keep my RAW files in Finder. If I find pictures in Photos that seem like they could value from RAW editing, I use Lightroom or Nikon's free editor, and then I export those few edited pictures as jpgs to Photos. Photos is my main organization tool, but I use it only on jpgs.
I’ve probably caused the confusion.
i tried to bring the raw files onto my mac so I could store them in a separate folder but my mac wont connect to the camera either via wi-fi or cable.
i then tried it via ipad where I can successfully transfer (jpeg) files but I cant seem to get the raw files either into photos or onto a seperate folder (which is my preferred option)
sorry if I have confused the issue
Thanks for that Jeff.
It is a Canon RP which is on the list of supported devices
Sorry - also files not not compressed - they are the largest RAW files
Some importers have a hard time with Raw+ JPEG. If you take a blank card, shoot just two or three Raw files (no JPEGs) will it import the Raw files.
I cant get the files across in any way. I have tried wifi or connecting camera directly via usb-c cables but finder does not see the camera. Hence my trying to import into photos.
Sorry-- I was asking Mac questions, instead of iPad questions. Happens too often…
Are you connecting directly to the camera? Or are you using an SD card reader?
Are you able to import Raw files, if you just shoot Raw and no JPEG files. This was tricky to do on Lightroom for years. This is possibly the issue with Photos.
