How to find free games for my child on iPad?
I’m looking for games for my 5 year old to play on my IPad that are free. Most I find lock the features and require payment.

You look through the App Store. If the game is completely free, it will say "Get" instead of a price. If it is free to download but there are in-app purchases, that will be noted under "Get".
The developers of "free" apps need to make money somehow. That may be with ads or with in-app purchases. You may find you'll do better downloading games that have a one-time purchase price but don't have in-app purchases.
