Apple Music on Windows 10 causes display to lower refresh rate

I have a 144 Hz monitor that supports variable refresh rate (FreeSync/G-Sync). Normally the display runs at 144 Hz and can go lower in games to match the frame rate.

For some reason Apple Music forces the display to lower its refresh rate to the minimum ~40 Hz which makes navigating the app stuttery and slow. This behavior isn't supposed to happen with desktop apps, nor does it happen with any other desktop app I have.

I haven't found a way to fix this issue, so hopefully either someone else has or Apple fixes this.

Thanks in advance!

I've been using the AM app on Windows 10 for about a year. iTunes told me to switch so I did. I don't remember if it had that issue but I don't know if I can still use it to stream music.

In any case many people are using high refresh rate monitors on Windows 10 so this shouldn't be happening, hopefully it gets fixed by Apple.
