Apple Watch sync data not working even after resetting the device

My Apple Watch ends up out of sync with my calendars, even though they're up to date on my iPhone.

Using reset sync data on the phone has no effect.

I have completely reset the watch and re-added apps and faces, but the same issue is immediately there.
