Why is Apple using a courier for returns instead of the post office?

Why is Apple suddenly decided to use a courier for returns. The last time I did a return, I took it to the post office and the post office handle it. I got another box with a bit with a bag and I had no idea what it was. The communication at Apple gives for these things is leaves a lot to be desired. I actually threw this bag in the bin because I didn’t know what it was. Fortunately my wife advised me what it was and I had to recover it. I believe it’s for my laptop and so the courier can pick it up but it didn’t have an address label. I believe the courier has it is this right?
