When you set up Assistive Access on an iPhone, you can choose specific contacts for streamlined communication. In doing so, you might notice that some contacts show both "Call" and "Video" options, while others only show "Call."
Here’s why:
- If the phone number or email address you saved is linked to FaceTime, WhatsApp, or a similar video-capable app, iOS automatically knows that a video call can be made. Voilà — you get both Call and Video buttons.
- If that number isn’t tied to any internet-based calling service (FaceTime, WhatsApp, Signal, etc.), you're stuck with the classic Call button — no video frills.
This behavior is automatic and cannot be manually changed from the iPhone settings, even if you try sweet-talking Siri.
It’s tied to how the phone number is registered across Apple's servers or third-party app servers — basically, it’s the internet’s business, not yours or your iPhone’s.
Even if you delete the contact, re-add it, or chant at the full moon, if the number has no internet video calling link, Videojust won't show up.
Summary:
- Call Only → Number is not linked to FaceTime or any video-calling app.
- Call + Video → Number is linked to FaceTime/WhatsApp/similar.
- User Control → Zero. Zip. Nada. It’s based on external associations, not your iPhone's settings.
