Why won't Apple Music play a single item on my Mac mini?

I am using Music on a Mac Mini running the latest Sequoia. I cannot get it to play a single item and then stop, it always goes on to play some other item - both Shuffle and Repeat are switched off.

Thanks for your reply.

I have never seen any check boxes (now using Sequoia 15.3.2 on a Mac Mini)

In the View menu there is nothing about As Songs - nor in any other menu.

Though perhaps that is automatic, as this is my usual View.

I have unticked the Show Songs list checkboxes in Settings, but that has made no difference.

If I click on the menu top right, I get a 'Playing next' list, as shown above.  Clicking Clear has no effect on that.

The only way I can get rid of those is to click on the 3 dots to right of an item and click 'remove from playing next’. I would have to do that individually for each of about 30 items.

The next problem is that when I choose another item in my playlist, all those play next items are back again. . .

Your issue sounds like mine! After almost every Reinstall. Especially you change device access to sound. This change can happen just by connecting to a speaker system or a server. Safari, Settings and lots more respond, adjusting system sound. Where you had great Start sound! Suddenly there's only silence. You need to persist. Settings Sound Effects and Settings Output. Back and forth testing with some external stimulus. Apple headphones and 3rd party speakers ~ work them all.

Safe boot, and then normal. Unplug and replug speakers. Your speakers have their own Audio DAC. Apple will recognize that DAC when you plug in. Eventually, Apple corrects its DAC addresses. Your horse is good to go. Remember, your lost sound involves 3 services that must be mounted by you and work with each other as designed: 1.) your device; 2.) your service provider; 3.) as in sample above, an external DAC array. Way to go eh, Mister Ed!

Zannie,

That is normal behavior for iTunes or Music. If you want it to stop at the end of each song, uncheck the boxes. If you don't see the boxes, use View > As Songs, and also go to Music > Settings, General tab, and uncheck (untick) "Show -- Songs list checkboxes."

Music will not automatically advance to an unchecked song, so having them all unchecked will accomplish what you want.

You have a cultural media flooding issue. Naturally, this solution assumes you understand how to use a third party to deliver your one item to your new device.9 In my case the advisor recommended finding a third party Music host who will enable play-and-stop. The host used was JumpShare. Upload just the "one item" you want to hear to . Save that 3rd party address with your out-sourced item hash tag on the end of the above mp3 address. Which will then expire in 24 hours.

The only drawback being you have to re-tag every 24 hours. My experience with Jumpshare free unregistered service is that they will only play that one item. Don't need an email to upload 24 hour one item trial. So no junk mail. Special attention: that "restricted item" policy is outside of North America. Where we use a "media flooding" policy, that obviously is causing your roaming media issue. Unknown what other issues may arise, in that offshore jurisdiction. Where I lived for ten years. They do things a little differently, in what we affectionately call, 'the upside down world'... Good luck.

You want that option selected. Then use Songs view from the Library section of the sidebar, or View > View As > Songs if you are selecting tracks from a playlist. You should now see a checkbox against each track. Cmd-clicking any checkbox will tick or untick all tracks in the current view. Unchecked tracks are skipped during normal playback so when all tracks are unchecked if you play any track Music will play that track only and then stop.

Note that unchecking tracks may also affect what is synced to any devices that you have. You want to recheck everything when you're done listening to one track at a time. An alternative to using checkboxes is to drag a track you want to play into a new empty playlist and play it from there.
