Blurry Scans with iPhone 16 Pro

The scanning function on my iPhone 16 Pro consistently produces blurry results. The edges of documents, in particular, are never sharp, even under optimal lighting conditions and with a steady hand. It seems impossible to get a clear scan with this device.

By comparison, my previous iPhone 11 Pro delivered sharp scans within seconds. The decline in quality with the iPhone 16 Pro is extremely disappointing—especially considering its high price.

My questions are as follows:

1. Is Apple aware of this issue?

2. Is there a fix, or is a software update in the works?

3. Is there a planned exchange program or recall for affected devices?

I have a U.S.-bought iPhone 12 Pro, nearly four years old, updated to iOS 18.4.1 — and the scanning process with the iOS camera works perfectly without any issues.

Purchase Apple Products from the Apple Online StoreApple Retail Stores, and many Apple-authorized resellers and wireless service providers.

I have an iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max and scans are just fine on our phones. Nothing blurry at all. And I compared a newly scanned document using my iPhone 16 Pro to documents I've stored on previous phones and there is no decline in clarity.

When you ask questions like:

1. Is Apple aware of this issue?

2. Is there a fix, or is a software update in the works?

3. Is there a planned exchange program or recall for affected devices?

I'm guessing you're not aware you aren't speaking with Apple here. This is a user to user only forum, which no one from Apple participates or reads for user feedback. We are not aware of what Apple may know or what they may be working on. But keep in mind that while you may have an issue, that doesn't mean others are. I'm on this forum every day and I don't recall other posts about blurry scans on iPhone 16 model phones.

Perhaps schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show it to them.

A final thought. By chance do you use lens protectors on the cameras on your iPhone? If you do, they can absolutely negatively impact the clarity of images your cameras take.
