Can't log into iMessage from iMac

recently I stopped being able to use messages on my 2024 iMac running OS 15.3.2. Not sure if it started after most recent update but I think it did. When I go to Messages>settings>@iMessage it shows grayed out "Sign Out" with spinning wheel next to it. even if I quit Messages and restart computer the spinning wheel is still there when I open messages again. Mac is signed in to my Appleid and to iCloud. Can't sign out of account in iMessage to try signing in again, just keeps spinning.

Apple Support helped me fix this. Problem was a login item. To identify which one, go to System Settings>General>Login Items & Extensions and turn off login items until you find the one causing the problem. You have to restart after each change to login items. iMessage and Screen Sharing App now both work fine.
