Update to Sonoma 14.6.1 on my MacBook Air M2 8GB using nearly all %CPU by calaccessd

After updating to Sonoma 14.6.1, I noticed a slowdown in processing speed. After checking my Activity Monitor, I noticed calaccessd was using nearly 100% of my %CPU and 3.33 GB of memory.

How do I fix this???

This process you are having issues with, is using the Calendar Framework

" /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CalendarDaemon.framework/Support/calaccessd

" After updating to Sonoma 14.6.1, " how many times has the computer been restarted since the update

It is surprising what a couple of restarts can sometimes clear up issues

FYI - Current Sonoma has now reached version 14.7.4 as of February 10 current year

If a couple of normal restarts don't help give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Thanks for the help, @PRP_53, and Old Toad!! I restarted the machine a few times, and my %CPU utilization for calaccessd normalized without needing to boot in Safe Mode.

@PRP_53, I noticed that you are running Sequoia 15.3.2. Unfortunately, when I tried to upgrade, I had insufficient memory. After looking at the memory, I found Messages using 71.29 GB for MOV files from September 2023!! I don't want to delete them, but they should already be stored in the cloud. Your thoughts???
