27” iMac Green Screen ☹️

Today my 27” iMac (2012) suddenly got a light green screen, at first with many tiny uniform vertical black lines. After many attempts at restarting, it now starts with just a light green screen which turns light gray, and eventually restarts, over and over.

I have tried resetting the PRAM without any success and have tried restarting in safe mode with the space bar down, again with no luck.

This is likely a hardware issue I guess and I am wondering what I might be looking at in terms of repair and cost. This is a secondary computer but I use it in my art studio and would hate to lose it. Thanks!

Most likely, you will find the repair to be economically unjustifiable. The affected component is almost certainly its GPU which has been out of production for a long time. Any repair would require using a replacement from a Mac that has been "parted out".

Don't take my word for it though, take your iMac to an Apple Authorized Repair Provider (AASP) and have them give you a definitive answer.

Start here: Official Apple Support. Apple can no longer repair that Mac but AASPs might be able to. Apple can refer one to you.
