Did Apple change how iPhone Notifications work on the Mac?

Unless I accidentally stepped into an alternate dimension, I'm sure that originally iPhone notifications went to the Mac once you linked it with iPhone Mirroring, regardless of whether or not Mirroring was active. Recently, however, I have noticed that no longer functions in the same way. It seems that Apple changed it so that your phone has to be actively mirroring for any notifications to arrive from the iPhone.

Is this a glitch on my phone? Did they change it? or did I slip into the Multiverse?

To receive notifications on both your iPhone and Mac

First ensure that iPhone Mirroring is set up by connecting your iPhone to your Mac.

Once connected, on your iPhone, navigate to Settings > Notifications, select an app, and enable Show on Mac.

On your Mac, go to Apple menu > System Settings > Notifications, and ensure Allow notifications from iPhone is turned on.

Repeat these steps for each app you wish to configure.
