Can't access Desktop on newly migrated Mac Studio.

I can’t add a folder to my desktop; I get the error;

The operation can’t be completed.

An unexpected error occurred (error code -8072).

I cannot sync anything to the desktop.

If I get info on the Macintosh HD, it is owned by ‘system’, not Admin (Me).

I have tried repairing the permissions, etc. Nothing works.

This is a brand new Mac Studio that I have just migrated from an older Mac Studio.

Any thoughts?

You did not state the method you used to migrate so we really have no idea what you did. If you did not follow the method in Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant then your migration may have been corrupted.

However before your panic, just try restarting in Safe Mode. It is wise to use a wired USB keyboard and mouse to do this and also to have all wired (USB, Thunderbolt, etc...) peripherals disconnected first.

Hi @rkaufmann87 - many thanks for your reply.

I just used the built-in Apple migration tool. I plugged in my new Mac Studio to my old Mac Studio and followed the prompts. I've done this countless times over the years. However, this time, I have no access to the Desktop. Also, no Documents folder.

If I use Safe Mode, what do I do once loaded? How do I repair access to the desktop?

Regards

Hi - signing in with safe mode made no difference; it found no errors.

However, after weeks of no access to the Desktop, I noticed a broken alias in my user folder called 'Desktop'. I deleted that file and created a new folder called 'Desktop'. I restarted, and now I can create folders on the desktop, take screenshots again, etc.

Super weird but fixed.
