The brightness keys don't work on my MacBook keyboard

The brightness control of the Apple keyboard F1 and F2 suddenly stopped working and NO amount of fiddling with the System Settings would fix it. For anybody who experiences this annoyance, the only solution was this: PULL THE ELECTRICAL CABLE from the wall. NOTE: I'm referring to the plug for the MONITOR, NOT the Mac. Wait 15 seconds and plug it back in. Fixed it right away.
