She should contact the school she will be attending and ask them what computing devices she will need. She will have to be 100% compatible with the course of study, third party apps needed for the program, and with other students and the professors.
Your best bet is to check the recommendations from the school she’s going to be attending before you buy anything.
The new M4 MacBook Air is a fantastic value and a great choice for most students and should serve very well for her undergrad classes. There may, however, be some specialized classes with specific software requirements.
