Remotely reboot Homekit hubs

One day everything was fine, then my four HomeKit cameras stopped reacting to movement, or saving recordings.

After several reboots of them I tried rebooting my hubs.

It worked.

But... if I am away from home, and this happens again, is there any way to reboot the hubs remotely?

My hubs are an Apple TV HD and a HomePod mini.

You might be able to do it via the Home App on your iPhone, (iPad or Mac)

Open the Home App

Tap on the HomePod

Tap gear icon to bring up settings

scroll down to Reset HomePod

Select Restart HomePod

I’ve not personally tried this to know if it works remotely.

You cannot restart an Apple TV from the Home App though. However you can now choose which Hub to be the default from the home app if you feel one works better than the other.

One other method is to use a smartplug, that you would plug your Apple tv into. Many of these work within and outside HomeKit. For example, buy a Meross smart plug, and make sure to download the Meross app. If you need to reboot the Apple TV (and HomeKit is not responding), you can use the Meross app to turn the plug off then on again, which will power off the Apple TV, and then turn it on again.
