Issue with Typing Focus When Using Two Monitors on macOS Sonoma

I’m experiencing a strange issue when using two monitors with my Mac.

Example: I have Chrome open on both screens. On the first monitor, I’m writing an email. I move my mouse to the second monitor and click on the tab bar to open a new tab in Chrome. The new tab opens, and the cursor blinks in the address bar, indicating that it’s ready for input. However, when I start typing, the text appears in the email on the first monitor instead of the address bar.

To be able to type in the second monitor’s Chrome window, I have to first click somewhere inside the window below the tab bar.

This behavior is very frustrating, and I’m not sure if it’s a bug or an intended feature (if it’s intentional, it’s really poor UX).

I'm running macOS Sonoma 14.7.2.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions?

Mac Studio, macOS 14.7
