Time machine backups compatibility

I want to change my 2018 iMac running on Ventura 13.7.4 for a new model. I back up to Time Machine to an external ssd drive. If i do upgrade to a new model will I be able to plug the ssd into the new computer and recover everything to it? Or am I looking at starting everything from scratch?

Thanks

iMac 27″ 5K, macOS 13.7

Yes, in fact that's a good way to initially set up the new Mac — by migrating its content from the older one's Time Machine backup. The new Mac will pick up where the older one left off and you will experience a working environment more or less equal to the one you had been accustomed to, except with a new Mac.

You may need to upgrade certain software. Adobe and Microsoft products come to mind, so check with their respective developers.
