Macbook Pro internet connection forces itself on

My macOS Sonoma turns itself on during the night after being carefully disconnected and without any user program intentionally installed to cause it to happen. I see an old entry (2017) in this forum with several people having the same issue. Is unticking the wifi to router box in Settings still the only solution?
