Apple Motion effect: particles don't take source image in FCP

An effect created in Motion 5.9 that gives particles the source image doesn't show that image when used in FCP 11.0.1

Created new effect. New group. White square > make particles.

Emitter:

Shape: Image

Arrangement: Random fill

Image source: The group where Effect source is in

Color mode: Take image color

The problem with trying to use an Effect Source (or Title Background... etc.) is that it is essentially just a Placeholder and not an image in any way (and as you have noticed, it is 100% transparent in an Emitter source).

You CAN add a Drop Zone and in Final Cut, you can apply the Effect to a clip then turn around and add the same clip to the Drop Zone. (You *will* need to change a parameter like Birth Rate or Initial Number to apply the change — you can then change it back to its former setting).

Thanks for your fast reply.

I lived in the (as it now seems) naive impression that the placeholder “effect source” in fcp would be filled with the clip-image where the effect was dropped. But you made it clear that that is not the case for all the places where that material is used in the effect. So lets go for the drop-zone…
